Aaron Hernandez's Murder Conviction Dismissed

Today, a judge ruled that Aaron Hernandez's 2015 murder conviction of the 2013 murder of Odin Lloyd be overturned. Under Massachusetts law, a conviction can be thrown out if the defendant in an open appeal dies before the appeal is seen through to completion. Last week, a portion of Hernandez's suicide note to his fiance was released to the public. In the note he told her "you're rich". There is speculation that Aaron Hernandez's death and the dismissal of his conviction may set his fiance and daughter up to receive a large payout of money due to his estate from his former team, the New England Patriots.
