Florida Man Arrested After Plot to Burn Jewish Neighbors Discovered

Police in Florida say they've prevented an "imminent crisis" after a man facing eviction threatened to set his building on fire and burn "Jews."

The Miami Beach Police Department tweeted Stolper's mugshot along with a video of a storage space belonging to the 72-year-old that contained 28 canisters of gas, sulfur powder, and potassium nitrate.

MBPD has arrested 72yr old, Walter Stolper. Stolper is charged w/ 1st Degree Attempted Arson after dumping several gasoline filled containers down a trash chute. His motivation appears to be triggered by an upcoming eviction and anger towards Jewish neighbors.

Stolper was stopped with two additional gasoline containers in his possession.  We are confident the work of our detectives prevented an imminent crisis at 5601 Collins Avenue.

Police acting on a tip Thursday night found Stolper in the parking garage of his complex moving canisters of gasoline inside his storage unit, and his car reeking of gas. Officers say they discovered several books of Nazi ideology inside his resident along with artifacts bearing swastikas.

An arrest report says the 72-year-old had already started pouring several canisters of gas down the building's trash chute from the 15th floor and that residents had began complaining about the fumes.

Stolper was "triggered" by his eviction and was angry with his Jewish neighbors, police said. Stolper told detectives that he bought the gas to make "a small barbecue."

The Wisconsin businessman has been charged with Attempted Murder and is currently being held at the Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center in Miami.
