Amara La Negra on 2020, LHHMIA, Me Too, N-Word, Giving Back & More!

Amara La Negra returns to Hoodrich Radio with DJ Scream! Amara talks about her many ventures for 2020 including but not limited to releasing her second children's book Amarita's Way, Love and Hip Hop Miami Season 3, hosting Mira Quién Baila dance competition on Univision, the launch of her new coffee line, I Like It Black, her new perfume Twerk, her new lipstick Mi Amor, where a portion of the proceeds are donated towards HIV & Aids outreach, Amara Forever reality tv show vlog, her new movie Fall Girl, & more!

She talks about how Love and Hip Hop changed her life and helped her to cross over from the Latin to the American market. She weighs in on the Superbowl coming to her city Miami and thinks that J Lo & Shakira will be a great halftime show.

Next, she discusses men and how to respectfully approach her. She gives advice to women aspiring to pursue a career in entertainment. She advises to be persistent and clear on your goals, to go for it with thick skin and strong character because as a woman, you will get tried. She warns against getting seduced with promises of opportunities and advises to use talent to get ahead instead of sleeping around. She weighs in on the Me Too Movement and wishes that people would be less judgemental towards the victims. She talks about dealing with sexual harassment in her own journey and why she chose not to speak out immediately She credits her strength to her hunger and belief in herself.

She touches on her controversial statements in the past to TMZ about actress Gina Rodriguez, whom she defended after seeing a video of her using the N-word as she sang a song on social media. She clarifies that she didn't know the full context of previous implications of racism, and doesn't support her for using the term. She talks about the sensitivity of the topic and admits that she sometimes wonders where exactly she falls as to who can and can not say the term as a brown-skinned afro-Latina.

Amara reveals gaining strength in overcoming homelessness in her own past and talks about how she pushed through and worked through that obstacle before being hired on a tv show. She talks about the importance of giving back, some of her philanthropic pursuits, & the importance of using her platform for good.
